Although she studied Economics and specialized in Statistics, Layla Abul Illa found herself in play writing. She used that career to correct the wrong preconceived ideas about her religion and her culture in Britain. Her English language which she has mastered helped her greatly in becoming a writer. Already she published two plays and a story collection. Two of her historic stories, (Chechnya Lion) and (The Secret Life) were turned into series shown by (Channel 4) of the BBC. Her play (Minaret) won the Kane Prize for the African Literature. Other works of hers were nominated for high international prizes. Western critiques believe that Layla was able to give a positive image for the Moslem woman. In Layla works, the woman finds strength in Religion, and not running away from it.
