It also provides numerous opportunities of employment, activates the domestic and national economy and meets the demand for the essential sugar commodity. It produces other industries such as ethanol, fodders, etc., for self-sufficiency and exportation to fetch foreign earnings under the current emergency economic circumstances world-wide, including Sudan.

Economist: expects high productivity in this season

An economist expert, a member of the Economic Committee of Khartoum State Legislative Council dr Ahmed Dawlla said that all projections indicate to a promising high productivity of food in this season, due to heavy rains in the production areas.

Al-Bashir receives telephone calls from Mursi and Haniya on martyrs of Talodi plane crash

The President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir on Monday received telephone call from President of Egypt, Mohammed Mursi in which he conveyed to him condolences of the Egyptian government and people to the Sudanese government and people over martyrs of plane which crashed near Talodi town yesterday.
The President also received similar telephone call from Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya.

Obesity ‘bad for brain’ by hastening cognitive decline

Being overweight is not just bad for waistlines but for brains too, say researchers who have linked obesity to declining mental performance.
Experts are not sure why this might be, but say metabolic changes such as high blood sugar and raised cholesterol are likely to be involved.
Obesity has already been tipped as a risk factor for dementia.

Russian pilot among dead in Sudan crash

A Russian pilot was among the victims on a plane which crashed in Sudan’s war-torn South Kordofan, killing all 32 people aboard, Moscow’s embassy confirmed on Monday.
“He was the captain,” Yury Vidakas, the embassy’s press officer, told AFP.
Vidakas could not immediately provide the name of the pilot, whom he said was “on private contract” with Alfa Airlines that operated the Antonov charter flight which crashed on Sunday
