Violence and abuse against women (1)

On my last column I told of the stories of two women being killed by their husbands for different reasons and in different cultures. The first one was reported by the AFP news agency, saying that: “Afghan police were on Monday hunting a man who allegedly killed his wife after she gave birth to the couple’s third daughter …angering her husband who had wanted a son, police said.”

Frenchman Bruno Metsu in talks with Cote d’Ivoire FA
Cote d’Ivoire football federation president Sidy Diallo last week assured the press he was working round the clock to recruit a new coach after Francois Zahoui’s contract lapsed late last month.
After reviewing a number of applications which included that of former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, the Ivorian football body seems to have fixed upon Bruno Metsu, who phenomenally led Senegal to the quarter-finals of the 2002 Fifa World Cup.

German Embassy Donates Sport Equipment to Ahfad University

The German Embassy in Khartoum has donated various sports equipment at the value of 4,000 Euro to Ahfad University. The donation forms part of
Germany’s International Sports Promotion, which aims to support the development of wide-spread sport-activities in partner-countries. Apart from
Donations; the German Foreign ministry also regularly finances trainings of
Sudanese trainers and sport teachers in Germany.

Britain Calls on Sudan-South Sudan to Stop Hostilities

The United Kingdom has called on Sudan and South Sudan State to stop hostilities and the escalating tensions between the two countries .
This came when the British Ambassador to Sudan, Nicolas Kay addressed, at the British embassy, Thursday, the graduation ceremony of 100 Sudanese journalists who attended English language course which was organized by the British embassy in the context of the cultural cooperation between Sudan and Britain .

Cabinet Briefed on Higlig attack, orders Retaliation

Sudan’s Council of Minister convened an extraordinary meeting yesterday where it condemned the South Sudan-backed attack on Heglig oilfield and decided to halt all forms of negotiations with South Sudan.
Speaking to the press after the Cabinet meeting, spokesperson Omer Mohamed Saleh, said the Cabinet condemned the attack and ordered Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to retaliate.
Omer said the Council of Ministers also listened to reports from the Ministers of Finance, Petroleum and Defence.
