Audio Slideshow: Princess Alice in Saudi Arabia 1938

In 1938, Princess Alice, the last of Queen Victoria’s granddaughters, went on a royal visit to Saudi Arabia. Although the visit was not official, the aim of strengthening relations between the two countries was not far from the agenda in the year oil was discovered in the region.
During her three-week long trip, the princess took more than 320 photos, which were later acquired by the Library of King Abdul Aziz’s University in Riyadh.
The photos featured earlier this year at the University of Exeter’s Street Gallery. Jane Clark, Curator of the gallery, goes through some of the rare pictures.
